About the AIED Lab

Welcome to the official Substack of the AIED Lab at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education (PennGSE).

Our lab sits at the intersection of advanced technology and learning sciences. We are dedicated to exploring how Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED) can be leveraged to create more equitable, effective, and engaging learning environments for students and educators worldwide.

Our Leadership

The AIED Lab is powered by a diverse team of researchers, designers, and educators. Our core leadership includes:

  • Professor Seiji Isotani (Principal Investigator): A leading expert in educational technology, Professor Isotani also serves as The President of the International AI Education Society

  • Nam Nguyen (Research Manager): Nam oversees our research operations and manages Instructional Projects. A former High school Physics teachers with an Ed.M. from Harvard University in Learning Design, Innovation & Technology.

  • Shruti Mehta (Ph.D. Student - Learning Science and Technology): Shruti is a Ph.D. student at Penn’s GSE. Shruti’s studies practical application of AI in virtual settings and investigates how different Large Language Models (LLMs) performs in various cultural and developmental context.
